Street Wolves ON Foundry VTT Changes

Street Wolves, Updates

There’s been some changes with the Street Wolves VTT Foundry Module going forward: Street Wolves is no longer a “premium” Foundry module, meaning you can’t buy a key and just activate it in order to use it. Keep reading for the good news though!

The Good News

There’s some good news in all of this, in that I will continue to sell the Street Wolves Foundry module as a zip file. It will be a little harder to install, but it’s pretty easy to do. Other creators handle it in the same way (see Battlelords and Sprawlrunners).

The really good news is that I will continue to update the Street Wolves module for a long while yet, since I still use it and I want you to be able to continue using it too.

It is now being sold at the Table Cat Shop, itch.io, and Drive Thru RPG.

What if You Bought it Already?

Nothing negative will happen. You can continue to use it as if nothing has happened.

However, it gets tricky when we consider future updates. I can no longer update through Foundry, like I was able to in the past. For more on this topic, keep reading:

How Do I Get Future Updates?

Now here is the important part if you’ve already purchased the module:

  • If you got it on Drive Thru RPG or itch.io: The zip file is now associated with the title in the store, meaning are be able to go to your game library and download it if you’d like. You’ll have to manually install it following the instructions you get with the zip file.
  • If you got it on the Foundry VTT Marketplace: This is a bit trickier since I have no access to those that purchased it nor a way to get them a file. However, I can hook you up with a complimenatry copy on Drive Thru RPG that will get you the zip file that you can access going forward. You just need to email support@tablecatgames.com with proof of purchase and the email you use on Drive Thru RPG.

Either way, the downside is that any time I release an update I you have to go through the process of getting the new file (folder, really) and replacing your old one.

What about Future Purchases?

Nothing really changes for you, except it comes in the form of a zip file.

Why Make this Change?

It’s a little complicated. There were some misunderstandings on my part, but also I’m not a fan of their current policies of charging creators a minimum fee if they don’t sell enough copies in a quarter.

I previously wrote that the selling exclusively on the Foundry Marketplace didn’t have the minumum sales fee. That turned out to be a misunderstanding between the Foundry Maketplace and Foundry itself (a different company runs the marketplace).* When it was all sorted out there turned out to be no such policy. I ended up getting charged under the minimum sales policy and I decided to cut ties and go it my own way.**

* I want it on record that the third party company that runs the Foundry Marketplace is totally great and I have zero beef with them. They were super helpful and nice.

** I totally don’t want to burn any bridges, but charging a creator for not selling a minimum amount of copies is a total anti-growth mindset for indie ttrpg developers. Imagine if Drive Thru RPG charged creators for not selling enough games in a month. It’s ridiculous.

In Conclusion

So the short version is that the Street Wolves Foundry module is no longer a premium one, but it is still alive and well in a slightly different form. In fact, I’m thinking about creating to some modules for it such as the Dead Hand campaign. Stay tuned for more!
