The Wicked Forever King in Print!

I recently went to PAX Unplugged and I was inspired by all the great games I saw there. And since I was thinking of running a booth at a con someday, this last weekend I went ahead and redid the layout of The Wicked Forever King Hungers for print. Since Street Wolves would be too massive a project to get into a con in the first half of the year, Forever King was the clear winner for the first physical game I’m going to make.

I redesigned Forever King in a smaller, from a standard paper size 8.5 x 11in to a digest size of 5.5 x 8.5.

Why digest size? After seeing a ton of indie ttrpg zines and booklets in the digest size, they simply look better. Especially together on a shelf. It’s also easier to display at a con with other games of it’s type.

So what does this mean for you if you already purchased Forever King in its digital form? Well first, thank you for your purchase. I appreciate it.

When everything is finalized I’ll be updating the game on itch and Drive Thru RPG adding this new layout. I currently plan to keep the old sized file on there as well for archival purposes, but I don’t plan on updating it any more now that this new version is out. But anyway, you’ll get the new layout in digital form. If you were credited on the Kickstarter, those credits will still appear in this version (both digital and print).

Not only is the layout rearranged to accommodate the new size, but this version also sees an additional page that briefly explains what the game is, how many people you need to play it, what dice you use, and a little bit on safety.

Because of the way the pages flowed, I had to add add another new page. I decided to cook something up with the art assets I already had on hand, and I think it looks cool.

Oh and you may have noticed a big change to the cover. I decided to swap out what I originally had with the illustration that Hodag RPG did for the game. It’s super dynamic and people have responded well to it (especially when they’ve gotten the shirts). At first, I prefered a more moody and atmospheric cover, but I feel like if this is on display next to other games, Hodag’s art will help it pop.

By the way, Hodag RPG won an Ennie, so I technically could say an Ennie award winner worked on Forever King

Anyway, I’m currently awaiting the proof to arrive to see what it looks like in person. After that I’m hopefully going to order a bunch to sell at cons (and maybe this website)!
